The Lincoln MKX goes up against the Lincoln RX 350

At Forrester Lincoln the Lincoln MKX is one of our most popular models. It's right in the middle of the brand's crossover lineup and while we might be in love with it we realize shoppers in the market for their next crossover are probably checking out a few other options. Today we'll compare our Lincoln contender to one of its rivals- the Lexus RX 350.

Engine, Performance, and Cargo Capabilities

The Lincoln MKX comes standard with a 3.7L V6 that has 307 horsepower. The Lexus RX 350 has a 3.5L V6 with only 295 horsepower. That alone gives our brand's crossover an edge, but we also need to point out that all four trims on the Lincoln MKX can upgrade to an even more powerful 2.7L V6 with 335 horsepower for an extra boost when driving around the Chambersburg area! Double win.

Towing wise both models tie at being able to bring along up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Each of the crossovers has seating for five passengers. The cargo volume on the Lincoln MKX is 37.2 cubic feet of space when the seats are up and 68.8 feet if you need to fold all the back seats flat. In comparison, the RX 350 is quite tiny with only 18.4 cubic feet of space behind the second row (not much more than the trunk of many mid-size sedans) and 56.3 cubic feet of maximum space. If you have one or two children or a lifestyle that necessitates suitcases and gear, you'll enjoy having more room to work with on the Lincoln!

Exterior Style

Aesthetics are subjective, and what might get one person excited might make another shrug. That said, the Lincoln MKX and Lexus RX 350 have very different looks. It's no secret the Lincoln brand is known for cool sophistication and elegance. Their vehicles have just the right amount of curves for a soft appeal plus a big stance that screams American design. Lexus is a Japanese brand and you can see the cultural preferences in their style with very sharp angles and a "sporty" look that goes with the underground car scene.

Most of the customers who come into our dealership are looking for a more mature and subdued look, which makes the Lincoln a more appropriate choice than the RX 350.

Standard Amenities

The Lincoln MKX has an impressive list of standard features. Some highlights include xenon headlights, simulated leather seats that can be power-adjusted (get real leather on the next trim), a driver-seat memory function, two USB ports, and a 10-speaker audio system. There's also a large 8-inch touchscreen that runs the Lincoln SYNC®3 infotainment system. It also supports Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ smartphone integrations.

The Lexus RX 350 admittedly has an equally impressive standard list. However, you won't get Apple CarPlayâ„¢ or Android Autoâ„¢ and you'll be shy one speaker. One way the RX 350 does have an edge over the Lincoln MKX is with a power liftgate on the base trim. However, if you have room in your budget to go up to the next trim with the Lincoln MKX you'll get a hands-free liftgate which you won't find until you top out the RX 350 trim lineup.

Advanced Safety Features

The RX 350 offers a standard Safety System + package that includes several advanced safety technologies.  While the Lincoln MKX offers formidable standard safety features, you can only get optional advanced safety features with the top trim levels. For some drivers that might be a downside, but we personally like that across the Lincoln lineup customers have the option to choose these alerts, rather than have them on their car if they aren't interested. This also allows the Lincoln MKX to offer a more appealing price point for their Premiere.  In the unfortunate case of an accident, know that all Lincoln MKX models come standard with a post-crash SOS system for worst case scenarios.

The Lexus RX 350 put up a fight, but the Lincoln MKX has a lot going for it, especially when it comes to engine power, cargo capabilities, and smart phone integration technology. The Lincoln MKX also offers a more attractive base price than the Lexus RX 350.  For more information, or to test drive this popular Lincoln crossover, come into our dealership today!
